The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving the sales growth of our client’s dedicated transportation and brokerage business by building, effectively
managing and expanding the sales team. This role focuses on new business development, revenue generation, and enhancing our client’s brand in the market. Success in this position requires an entrepreneurial mindset, the ability to build and scale a business, and the vision to develop innovative solutions that address unmet customer needs.

Responsibilities:
- Manage and mentor SDRs with a focus on new business development, revenue growth, and market expansion.
- Develop and implement sales strategies to penetrate diverse service portfolios, including Last Mile, LTL, SaaS, Logistics Consulting, and other transportation solutions.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities in Truckload, Flatbed, and Intermodal as needed.
- Foster an entrepreneurial sales culture that encourages creativity, ownership, and proactive problem-solving to capture emerging opportunities.
- Strategically build and scale the business by identifying high-potential markets and innovative service offerings.
- Drive business growth through lead sourcing, opening new deals, and solution-oriented selling, including developing custom solutions that address unique customer challenges.
- Leverage market insights to create and implement go-to-market strategies that differentiate our client from competitors.
- Recognize and capitalize on new revenue streams by staying ahead of industry trends and customer demands.
- Build and maintain high-level client relationships with a strategic, executive-level approach. Be willing to roll up your sleeves to get deals across the finish line.
- Collaborate with operations and account management to negotiate rates and services across all modes for RFPs and oversee the implementation of large accounts.
- Develop strategic carrier partnerships, nurturing long-term relationships that contribute to scalable growth and service innovation.
- Lead recruitment and hiring processes for the division, including standardizing hiring and training practices.
- Design and implement training and onboarding programs for new sales hires, focusing on geography, industry knowledge, and mode expertise.
- Foster an entrepreneurial team environment that encourages innovation, agility, and ownership, empowering team members to develop new solutions.
- Coordinate with Human Resources on recruiting, hiring, and training execution.
- Partner with marketing teams, agencies, and other sales leaders to develop and execute sales and marketing initiatives and materials for brokerage and logistics services.
- Continuously enhance the inside sales program to capitalize on our client’s growth potential while integrating with existing sales infrastructure.
- Champion our client’s brand by crafting compelling value propositions and innovative marketing campaigns that resonate with target audiences.
- Pioneer the development of new services and solutions that are not currently offered, positioning our client as a forward-thinking industry leader.
- Collaborate across departments to design and launch innovative products or service enhancements that meet evolving customer needs.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies that improve efficiency, customer satisfaction, and competitive advantage. Create a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging experimentation and calculated risk-taking to drive business innovation.
- Attend industry conferences to generate new business with a high ROI. Network in advance, setting meetings and organizing peripheral events to maximize networking opportunities.
- Represent our client brand professionally in person, on social media, and through clear and effective written and verbal communication.
- Work collaboratively with all departments, including Operations, IT, Marketing, and Finance, to develop integrated business solutions.
- Provide strategic leadership and vision to guide cross-functional teams in the development and execution of growth initiatives.
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance across the organization.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in brokerage sales or business development.
- Proven track record of driving sales growth, building new business lines, and closing major accounts.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify market gaps and develop innovative solutions.
- Deep understanding of dedicated last mile delivery, FTL, and LTL transportation modes.
- Experience with RFQ/RFP processes and familiarity with TMS systems, EDI, API integrations, and web-based tendering.
- Proficiency in MS Office and/or Google Workspace.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate at all organizational levels.
- Market knowledge of last mile delivery, LTL, and truckload lanes and pricing.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, learning and using multiple applications while managing high volumes of outbound communication.
