The Director of Procurement plays a pivotal role in driving the strategic direction of materials management and procurement operations. This position is responsible for
negotiating critical and high-volume items, ensuring efficient inventory levels of raw materials and purchased items, and determining their final disposition. The Director will collaborate closely with various departments to optimize supply chain processes and support the company’s growth objectives.

Responsibilities:
- Negotiate and maintain long-term contracts with major vendors.
- Analyze market conditions to determine present and future procurement strategies.
- Develop and manage relationships with suppliers to reduce costs and improve raw material quality.
- Plan and direct materials supply for production needs while maintaining a JIT process to control inventory at or below target levels. Inventory turnover target is 6.
- Identify and implement savings via volume buying opportunities, vendor or component consolidation, and process improvements.
- Lead RFQ for main commodities, flavors and packaging.
- Lead and manage supplier scorecards with R&D and FSQA for supplier selection
- Lead sourcing weekly updates to internal teams.
- Oversee the Project Management team and Continuous Improvement Initiatives.
- Evaluate vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers using RFQ and Supplier Scorecards
- Master and use the current purchasing system and computer systems before proposing any preapproved changes.
- Provide quarterly supply chain industry updates for sales and customers, including macroeconomic overviews and commodity trends.
- Monitor total spending and monthly spending by category to ensure the budget is not exceeded.
- Supervise and support the daily activities of the purchasing and sourcing department.
- Lead with the procurement team the source, design, and develop the new packaging materials and art graphics required to support the expansion of existing product lines or installation of new processing equipment.
- Identify at-risk items and develop supply solutions to prevent shortages and minimize price fluctuations.
- Supervise the qualification, approval and onboarding of new vendors.
- Constant evaluation of supplier’s performance on quality, delivery time, and price.
- Support Quality Assurance with BRC requirements related to purchasing
- Staff support training and fill-in as needed.
- Maintain appropriate and professional written and verbal communication.
- Ensure that food safety, legality, integrity and quality standards are always maintained.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by Management.
- Regular attendance for scheduled shifts is a requirement of this position.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities such as professional publications, seminars/webinars or professional organizations.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or other related area
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in Supply Chain Management, with at least 5 years including managerial role. CSCMP or APICS certification and transportation knowledge a plus.
- Able to handle pressure and change.
- Taking action to begin a process, often done without direct managerial influence. Includes sharing ideas, helping to improve business, speaking up about problems, and suggesting potential solutions.
- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.
